Molecular Lasing

Reintroducing structural complexity to control lasing

Ever wondered how small one can make a laser? Well, a few molecules and a small nanoparticle are enough. Experiments in Cambridge has demonstrated this design but such systems are tricky to control, its simply pretty hard to understand what exactly is going on with such systems. Theory starts from the other side. We know how we design our model, but it is challenging to reach the complexity reached under realistic conditions. We use our expertise in open-system many-body methods to incorporate the full complexity of the molecular structure and find resonance that could be used to count the number of molecules or reduce/tune the lasing transition.
